Barock Project

Barock Project 2014 Barock Project

Barock Project came to life in 2003. The band’s aim was to combine the perfect structure of classical music (mainly baroque music) with modern rock, adding some jazz harmonies and an underlying pop structure. The band’s intention was to revamp a love for '70s progressive rock music. The mastermind behind the project is the band’s founder and keys player, Luca Zabbini, a trained pianist and composer. His love of the late Keith Emerson (ELP) has forever been the driving force behind his desire to compose and play a full range of styles, from classical to rock and jazz.

In January 2007, with talented lead vocalist, Luca Pancaldi, the band performed live in Bologna (Italy) accompanied by a string quartet with all musical arrangements written by Luca Zabbini, they then released a DVD called “Rock in Theater”.

In December 2007 the band’s first album, Misteriose Voci”, was released on Musea Records. The album received very good reviews and media coverage all over the world.

In the summer of 2009 the band released its second album “Rebus”, on the Italian label, Mellow Records. This album also received positive reviews from around the world.

This album was followed in March 2012 by the release of the band’s third album "Coffee In Neukölln", again on Musea Records. With this album the band decided to record all the lyrics in English. This CD is considered by many as the best progressive release of that year and it was nominated in the Prog Awards 2012 for best album. Over the years the band saw a number of changes in line-up and in 2012 when 2 new members, Eric Ombelli on drums and Marco Mazzuoccolo on guitar, joined the band. In 2014 the band performed at the 2Days Prog + 1 Festival, in Veruno, Italy’s most important Prog rock festival, and was heralded as the best new set of the year.

In 2015 Barock Project joined the Stars of Italy management team and finished recording its 4th and to date most important album, “SKYLINE”, with artwork by Paul Whitehead, best known for his Genesis album covers. The cd also features a guest appearance from Vittorio De Scalzi of the NEW TROLLS as guest vocalist and on flute. Summer 2015 saw another change in the line-up when bass guitarist, Francesco Caliendo, joined the band.

The band released a double live cd “VIVO” (May 2016), 120 minutes of impressive non-stop music recorded live in 2015. The album highlights the band's ability to perform its songs brilliantly to a live audience. In September 2016 Barock Project welcomed new guest vocalist Alex Mari. The latest release, “DETACHMENT” (March 2017), doubled sales and opened up international stages for the Italian quintet, with outstanding performances in Holland (2017-2018), Japan (2017-2018) and United States of America (2018). The line up is now well established and future plans aim to play in front of new audience to satisfy worldwide demand from the fan base.
